Laura Ashley Townsend.
This past decade has been a whirl wind for me. I knew there was a reason for everything I was doing but I was unsure as to how it would eventually piece together. But then one day, it clicked.
Right out of high school I followed my true passion, fashion. I graduated from Humber College with a Diploma in Fashion Arts specializing in Visual Merchandising. Styling and displays were my specialty and I was fortunate enough to work for several well established retail companies and designers. The only problem, I was not receiving the self satisfaction I needed.
In 2004 my life was greatly affected by the passing of my Father. An unhealthy lifestyle, poor diet and lack of exercise lead him to suffer a fatal heart attack at the age of 48. I knew from that moment on I would do what I could to ensure the general population was well educated in health, wellness and nutrition so they could prevent themselves from taking the path my father did.
After the passing of my father I gained a bit of weight and was living a very comfortable lifestyle. I felt unhealthy, I lacked motivation and drive. I knew this was not the life I wanted to lead as I had always been an outgoing, motivated individual. It was then I decided to turn my life around. I taught myself how to eat better, I exercised and slowly started to shed the weight I had gained and got my self confidence back. I knew that if I could teach myself how to do it and maintain it then I could help anyone!
I then perused my hobby, recreation and fitness. When I was young I was a competitive gymnast and then transitioned into competitive swimming. I was a great long distance runner and could high jump over anything; I had always been very athletic. I completed a Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services from Humber College and then a post grad from Algonquin College in Recreation Facility Management. I wanted to help people get active and lead energized, healthier lives. But this still wasn’t enough for me, something was still missing.
The final piece of my puzzle was nutrition. I had explored University and becoming a registered dietician but I have never been a fan of westernized medicine or standardized diets. I was then introduced to Holistic Nutrition and it was at that point I knew I had found my calling. After 10 months of intense school work I graduated from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist.
It was one afternoon when I was driving that the concept of my business popped into my head. I had been thinking to myself for a while, how can I combine all of my schooling and make them worthwhile! It was at that point I knew that I would help guide people to optimal health and wellness as an Image Consultant. I would offer Nutritional Consulting, Style Consulting and Personal Training.
Today I am a RHN, RNCP, ROHP and Personal Trainer Specialist. I teach Water Fitness and often fill in coaching for the Oakville Masters Swim Team.
As a graduate of the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, my primary role is to educate individuals about the benefits and health impact of natural nutrition. My focus is all about helping people understand how to develop good eating and lifestyle habits that support fast healing, stable weight, excellent health and long term wellness. As a Personal Trainer my focus is to help individuals achieve their fitness goals and keeping them motivated and on track to feeling and being healthier. After revamping the inside, it is now time to perfect the outside! This is where my style consulting ties in, rebuilding self confidence and self love.
After 10 years of hard work, I’m happy to say that I have created a career that I love.
I finally feel fulfilled.
